Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection that affects the skin between the toes, and it often affects those who wear sweaty, smelly shoes for long hours. Who does that? Well, athletes are! Anyhow, Athlete’s foot can easily be acquired even by those using communal showers such as college dorm or gyms.
However, this condition is a controversial subject since there are plenty of unconventional alternatives in treating it – starting with over-the-counter antifungals and ending with natural remedies, such as garlic paste or oil.
But, one unconventional way of treating athlete’s foot caught my eye – Vicks Vaporub!
Since when, cough suppressants are good in treating foot fungus and itchiness?
Well, since forever, I guess, because the ingredients found in Vicks Vaporub – camphor, eucalyptus oil, menthol, thymol and petroleum – are perfect in annihilating the fungus responsible for Athlete’s foot and calming down the symptoms.
Besides, there is significant evidence of people claiming that Vicks Vaporub treated Athlete’s foot, even if the manufactures of this topical product don’t say much about its effectiveness in treating this condition.
Since is not a secret anymore, it seems that the natural ingredients found in Vicks Vaporub have antifungal properties which stop the growth and spreading of the fungal infection leading to complete healing.
Of course, lack of evidence and tests does not include Vicks Vaporub on the list of fungal infection treatments, but many medical professionals agreed that fungal infections are hard to treat. Using antifungals to treat Athlete’s foot could take time with the possibility for the fungus to return once you stop the treatment.
On the other hand, some specialists say that Vicks Vaporub can be a useful treatment for Athlete’s foot which is worth trying because it has no side effects.
How to apply Vicks Vaporub to treat Athlete’s foot?
Since is not a conventional treatment for fungal infections, there is no prescribed method in applying Vicks Vaporub for Athlete’s foot.
However, those who successfully used Vicks Vaporub said that you should smear the ointment just like any other topical fungal infection cream.
- First, trim your nails and try to keep them this way, using clean and disinfected clippers.
- Secondly, apply a thick layer of Vicks Vaporub on the affected foot twice a day – morning and evening, then apply a bandage to cover the area.
- If it irritates your skin, try applying it only once a day or stop the treatment.
Important! Don’t give up! Apply Vicks Vaporub daily for 2 weeks in a row if you want to see some improvement, and don’t interrupt the treatment even if the area has healed. Continue by using Vicks for another week after the Athlete’s symptoms have disappeared.
